Rotunda de Carlos da Maia

The Rutunda de Carlos da Maia, or so called ‘Sam Zam Dang’ in Cantonese, is a rounded square located next to the Rua da Emenda. The area around the square is famous for its Southeast Asian gastronomy, which are sold by twenties of Southeast Asian shops and restaurants, like Nga Hing Burmese Restaurant, surrounding the square. Those businesses are mainly owned by Macao’s Southeast Asian residents who are living around the square. Similar to the Rua da Emenda, the Rotunda de Carlos da Maia is also an gathering and living place for Macao’s Southeast Asian immigrants.

A Southeast Asian Food Festival will also be held in August every year. At this event, Southeast Asian restaurants will set their own stalls for selling food for guests. Meanwhile, on every 8th April of Lunar Calendar, Macao’s Southeast Asian residents will also celebrate the Water Splashing Festival together at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia.
